I have some anxiety about tomorrow and the days to come. Most of us have very strong opinions about who should win this election. While some of us will be relieved and validated on Wednesday morning, some of us are going to be disheartened…maybe disgusted. I’m trying to focus on the “us” in the U.S. regardless of the outcome. I may wind up disheartened or disgusted, but I refuse to get stuck in those emotions anymore than I will relief and validation. People are more important than politics. So, I will let whatever feelings I have wash over me and be mindful of all the family/friends/colleagues/neighbors for which I am grateful.
I am inspired by these wise words, from (in my opinion) our country’s finest president:
“We are not enemies, but friends. We must not be enemies. Though passion may have strained it must not break our bonds of affection. The mystic chords of memory, stretching from every battlefield and patriot grave to every living heart and hearthstone all over this broad land, will yet swell the chorus of the Union, when again touched, as surely they will be, by the better angels of our nature.” ~ Abraham Lincoln, First Inaugural Address, March 4, 1861
No matter the outcome, I will be sending out loving-kindness to US all!
